Long stretches of corrugations, rocky sections, spinifex and red dirt make this a journey where preparation and distance matter more than any single obstacle. It's old survey-road country, with plenty of kilometres between services and very little reason to rush.

Follow the Gunbarrel through the outback and you're travelling a route that helped open up a huge section of Australia's interior. The history is part of the drive, but so are the isolation, changing track conditions and sheer scale of the country around it.
