The Birdsville Track is one of Australia's best-known outback routes, running between Marree in South Australia and Birdsville in Queensland. What began as a stock route has become one of those drives that keeps finding its way onto 4WD trip plans.

It's long-distance outback touring rather than a track built around one big obstacle. Gibber plains, open country, corrugations and kilometres of changing desert landscape are what make the Birdsville Track memorable.

Run it north towards Birdsville, head south towards Marree or work it into a bigger desert trip with the Simpson, Strzelecki or Oodnadatta. However you did it, the Birdsville Track is one worth marking.
