Razorback Hut – The Easy Access Gateway to High Country Camping

Razorback Hut – Where High Country Adventures Begin

If you’re just getting started in High Country hut touring or want a solid weekend basecamp, Razorback Hut is where you start. It’s one of the most accessible huts in the region, with a spacious campground and the kind of setting that makes you want to stay an extra night.

Tucked off the Circuit Road, Razorback is a favourite with families, overlanders, and anyone chasing a campfire under the gums.

A Classic Hut with Room to Breathe

Razorback Hut was originally used by cattlemen and later adopted by the 4WD community as a popular overnight stop. It’s been maintained by locals and is now one of the best examples of a functional and well-loved High Country hut.

Simple slab walls. A tin roof. Fire ring out front. It doesn’t need much more.

How to Get There

One of the best things about Razorback is how easy it is to access:

From Mansfield:

Head up Mount Buller Road, turn onto Circuit Road, Razorback is located just off the main track—easy to find, even on your first trip. Tracks are usually suitable for most 4WDs in dry conditions, but always check for seasonal closures (typically winter).

It’s a great staging point for day trips to:

  • Craig’s Hut
  • Bindaree Falls
  • Pineapple Flat

Why It’s a Must-Stop for First-Timers

If you’re not ready to tackle technical tracks just yet, Razorback gives you the High Country hut experience without the white-knuckle drive. It’s also a perfect meeting point or a chill nig ht’s camp before heading into tougher terrain.

Plus, if it’s your first hut sticker, this is a proud place to start.
